Thor is the god of thunder in Norse mythology and Germanic. Its role is complex as it was influential in many different areas, such as weather, crops, protection, consecration, justice, the fights, travel and batallas.1
It was the most revered god of the Germanic tribes at least since the first written records until the last bastions of Germanic paganism in the late Viking Age. Most Germanic myths mention or focus on his exploits and tales of the Eddas plays the role of protector of Midgard, the world of men.2
His weapon is the throwing warhammer named Mjolnir, which were miniature replicas as an amulet which then became a defiant symbol of Norse pagans during the Christianization of Escandinavia.3
During and after the process of Christianization was complete, the figure of Thor was demonized by the growing influence of Christian missionaries. After that Christianity will build, the remains of their faith in secret were kept mainly in rural areas, 4 surviving well into modern times in Germanic folklore and most recently rebuilt in various forms in Germanic neopaganism.
